Shortly after Mi came up with its True Wireless Earphones 2, Oppo released their latest offering to the wireless earbud line up – Oppo Enco W31.
This puts three wireless earbuds in the budget consumer segment – Oppo Enco W31, Realme Buds Air, and Mi True Wireless Earbuds 2. What is surprising here is that all the three earphones come with more or less the same price tag making the competition really tight.
Let us, in detail have a look at how these wireless earphones compare against one another.
Oppo Enco W31 vs Realme Buds Air vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 – Design
Let me start by saying that the design is perhaps the only aspect where these earphones showcase major changes.
Realme has kept it simple with the design language. Buds Air retains the traditional earphone structure and looks a lot similar to the AirPods. One would say that this was quite the strategic move from Realme in creating an earphone, the design of which was inspired by a well-accepted product such as the AirPods.
It is quite difficult to differentiate Realme Buds Air from Apple Airpods. The same similarity can be noted in the design of the charging case as well. Since the overall body is curvy, Realme Buds Air is comfortable to use.
Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has the least curves among the three and features sharper edges for both the earphone sticks and charging case.
But Mi did a good job of putting together a unique design. However, there is a tradeoff here too. The stick of the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is thicker, and sticks out a little more than the Realme Buds Air and Oppo Enco W31 when kept in the ear.
While some people might actually prefer a noticeable earphone, most people would want to have a compact device in their ear. Having made of anti-slip material, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is comfortable to have in the ear and do not fall off frequently.
Oppo Enco W31 has the most modern design among the three. While the Realme Buds Air resembles the AirPods, Oppo Enco W31 bears a slight resemblance to the AirPods Pro.
Oppo Enco has adjustable bud sizes, and hence it can easily fit a wide variety of people with different ear shapes. Mi and Realme, however, have a fixed earbud structure, and hence may face misfit issues with at least some ear types.
Yet another unique design element of the Oppo Enco is its charging case which unlike the cases of the other two earbuds are circular It does look unique and stands out amongst the popular rectangular design that most of the wireless earbud cases have.
Oppo Enco W31 vs Realme Buds Air vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 – Sound Quality and Hearing Experience
All the three earphones offer considerable sound quality, bass, have a clear differentiation of low, mid, high notes, and carry satisfactory volume levels.
However, Mi True Wireless earphones offer slightly higher bass and better frequency separation, meaning it would have a better instrument and note separation among the three.
Oppo Enco W31, Realme Buds Air, and Mi True Wireless carry dual-microphone based noise cancellation systems to reduce environmental noise during calls.
Oppo Enco W31 does have an advantage over the other two in canceling noise as it has a dedicated anti-wind noise chamber to filter out unwanted environmental noise.
Considering the price tags in which these devices are offered, all three earphones offer decent satisfactory hearing experience while listening to music or attending calls.
Oppo Enco W31 vs Realme Buds Air vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 – Battery Life
Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Earphones seems to have the best battery back up among the three earphones. Mi mentions 4 hours of listening on a single charge and up to 14 hours when used with the case.
This is followed by Oppo Enco W31 at 3.5 hours on a single charge and up to 15 hours with the charging case. The Realme Buds Air provides 3 hours on a single charge and up to 17 hours with the charging case.
When it comes to charging, Realme Buds Air does have an added advantage over the other two as its charging case supports wireless charging. Oppo Enco W31 and Mi True Wireless Earbuds 2 does not support wireless charging as of now and will need to be plugged in using a USB cable.
Oppo Enco W31 vs Realme Buds Air vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 – Smart Features and Convenience
All three earphones are loaded with essential smart features and are convenient for daily use. Automatic Play/Pause and instant connection resume are two common smart features that you would find in all the three earphones.
In Oppo Enco W31 and Realme Buds Air, instant connection with your smartphone is established as soon as you open the lid of the charging case. In the case of Mi True Wireless, an instant pairing is enabled by the press of a button.
Apart from these common smart features, each of these earphones have their own customized gestures for different operations.
For eg. double tap on the earphone in Realme Buds Air answers the call, stops, or resumes music playback whereas a double tap in an Oppo Enco W31 switches the audio mode between balance and bass.
Coming to convenience, all three earphones are compact and hence convenient to carry and use. However, when using for long hours, Oppo Enco W31 is the better choice as it has adjustable earbud sizes. You have the option of choosing the earbud size that most suits your ear. That way its less strenuous when used for long hours.
Oppo Enco W31 is also rated IP54 water and dust resistant making it a good choice for using outdoors, and in gyms.
Oppo Enco W31 vs Realme Buds Air vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 – Which One to Buy?
Overall, all three earphones are good offerings for the budget segment and are convenient, smart, and offer decent sound quality.
Each of them has its own pros and cons when it comes to different features. It is up to you to weigh the pros and cons against your specific use cases and then arrive at a choice.
If your focus is on having a wireless earphone with modernistic design language that stands apart from the rest, we would recommend that you go for either the Oppo Enco W31 or Mi True Wireless Earphones 2.
Users focussing more on battery back up and higher bass can opt for the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2.
In case you prefer traditional earphone design and would want to have a device that looks like Apple AirPods with wireless charging capability, Realme Buds Air is for you.
